The 2021-22 water year has seen the wettest season recorded in the last decade, with the biggest environmental water event in the northern Basin helping to recover the Lower Balonne region. Additionally, the Macquarie Marshes, Gwydir wetlands and Narran Lakes all had large colonial-nesting waterbird colonies breed at the same time. A phenomenon that hasn’t occurred for 24 years.
